it's sew on weave no be a chance for you all to to ask him questions a little bit later and Miss Johnson is also going to help with Manning the questions that we make sure that we get everyone's but we're going to go ahead and jump into the presentation and here we go alright so one more poll question I want to try to put to the group and so again here's information for joining text is probably the easiest but you can also join by email me by a web so those two options are there is so I'm going to go ahead and go to the last question for our students and that is which High School does everybody will take a moment to just let us know that we got Banneker Hapeville Charter North Springs Riverwood Tri-Cities Westlake and then the final action which you are not see is a other and so if it's one that's not listed here if you'll just to let G Miss Johnson DC responses as of yet I am just changing the screen to see what we have going on and I will be able to let you know momentarily alright and make sure you activate I think that's the one thing you have to do it like as you go along you activated yeah well right now we don't have any responses for which school I'm sorry I'm trying to understand how to respond it so I can do it dad or something there too send a message in text okay where's the text on a tool the text you would take Kyrie Harris to 72 to the number 37607 and I'll put that in the chat box to are you going to have to help me out okay just something I have to click or something or cell phone and go in their cell phone like say like you're about to send a text message so go on your text to photos it's something new you have to ask question so far looks like we're dad 67% of the people who responded or going to North Springs 3% are going to Westlake and let me see how many looks like it's between Westlake and North Springs so far so we're going to move on so let's think about for a moment what high school is really about and what you see here are some of the news as I was thinking about what I school is about this is kind of what I came up with so you want to explore career opportunities as well as prepare for college or job Readiness send it we know that taking the different levels horses will be with her parents college and there was job ready we have a lot of Career and Technical College classes that can take a lot of times you can do an apprenticeship or go off campus to learn something I'm high school is definitely about stuff. learning some things about you how you check how you want to go about doing something all of that is a big part of of high school and then building relationships in lifelong friends you'll definitely relationship old ones but the process should be about football whatever floats your boat to provide to your offer so who are students first how do you begin to prepare organizational skills the big one and then of course relationships so when you think about your emotions I'm a lot of time students are definitely nervous some serious right now are probably in about like the new experience then there's summer we're going to be very excited like wow it's a new opportunity after we invent myself if you will, definitely afraid and scared just thinking about environment has larger than what I've been used especially if you've been at Main Street or kindergarten you have a small environment and when you go to HighSchool it's definitely going to be a different charger because do some things that I didn't get to do I'm going to be driving sooner than later and then definitely the mixed emotions are there and Terrence you're going to see all of those emotions and more I'm tapping of the time. I'm going to high school and wild amateur chelating in terms of student interest students and do want to remind you or notify you if you did not know volunteerism is really big in high school volunteer so many hours in order to graduate so please make sure if you haven't already started doing some volunteer efforts make sure that you begin doing that you can look at whether you're part of something organization already like boy scouts or Girl Scout when you get high school looking at being a part of the Beta Club that is high school Astic organization but it also includes service so look at that you can be volunteerism in a variety of ways I'm in high school what do you do with your religious organization you just helping your parents with something people in the community are lots of ways to fulfill that requirement and then colleges are also looking at volunteers are getting back to the community give me a one of remind you students to do is to explore interest so yeah you might be really good at basketball dancing you know any kind of sport but I want to try I don't want you to overdo it why do you think that it's important that you look at what you are actually interested and not just the thing that you've always done or because parents encourage you to support them in exploring new interest and then also as extracurricular activities is usually a club or a sport can participate in and if it's not there a lot of high schools really are supportive of students starting something new so be mindful of that so when it comes to challenges I would do want to make sure everybody understands what to do or how I think about your challenges one you want to know what your challenges are academically so when you are looking at a particular struggle in the most support do I need do I need a tutor do I need a router do I need my mom and dad just sit down and just really go over this with me teachers you need to figure out what your challenges are academically know how to approach it is absolutely going increase easy up until this point is my daughter's from KC it was pretty easy for her but what she at the high school she had to put in more effort sells a lot of time students you don't recognize it that but it is so I do want you to prepare for that even as you go if it's still because before you wonderful but if you've already prepared that it's going to be a little more challenging and that you need to step up your game at least you'll be prepared for it I'm also want to just remind you to make sure you know the graduation plan Noe requirements are what classes you need to take which classes are offered during which year and which Lester again my daughter is a rising senior she is going to be taking the PE class with mostly because we miss that so I do encourage everybody to really be on top of graduation plan then the challenges for a personal stamp thinking about you friendship there going to be some friends that you're going to let go and I really been talking about this for the fifth grade four students that you're going to make new friends you're going to have to let your friends no more shy that they don't open up challenge hey I just might the comfort of knowing what I know but just be open about what those challenges might be for you if you have any medical or mental issues I make sure that you get the proper word so again you want to go ahead and whatever these houses might be for you and then think about how do you start to handle them I'm one thing you will learn students is that you're going to have to handle a lot of things more independent we does it mean your parents are leaving you by the waist it just means that your parents are looking for you to take on more responsibility and to be able to fight for yourself when it comes to different things the weather feel like you should be taking going to want to see that you're putting forth an effort to they will absolutely supported so next we have the organizational skills and but I know that I'll definitely been talking about this about organizational skills academic rigor is going to increase you didn't need to have a game plan for how they're going to tackle the number of classes that they have in so before we started out as talking to your mom about it and that's a decision that you guys have to make organizational skills for taking any of the higher-level class honors baap and if you're at an IB School International Baccalaureate classes time management is going to be really key is well and that falls under that woman has a short time management you want to have fun you should have fun but you got to make sure that you have mastered your time so that you can do your work and have that fun I'm in the Ganges using my daughter's nickname for there been times where so I can't go to you know this event because of the work that you need to complete for this week just making sure that you all students in particular are really trying to get on top of things and plan ahead that's going to be really important for you as we move forward to start being your head so that Windows surprise party pop up just hanging out with your friend you'll be able to do it because you've already playing the Hat so do we get to the student relationships which is really big because you're going more than likely you're going to be friends until what friendship what qualities in a friendship do you want do you want someone who's honest you want someone who's always in the just because you may go to school with someone Main Street is not that you have to be friends with him but he won't even think about like the skills that you want but you also need to make sure that you are being a good friend as well when it comes to relationships and absolutely want to make sure that you know your teachers you get them you're going to need teachers for recommendations yes but you want to get to know your teachers because they're going to be the one who can see you. and they're going to be able to provide some of the resources that the other person that you'll need to know will be the counselor or sometimes counselors on just because you may have a counselor from grade to grade then there's sometimes a graduation code. Scholarship about opportunity visit as well as for those career opportunities they can point you in the right direction Apprentice programs just like component Dane meet with counselors to give them information so just be aware that that that account is a good person but also inform your parents are dumb be there to support you definitely there to help you make sure that you are working with them to communicate things that are happening with good and they definitely want to chill with you Indian overall you want to make sure you know what your support system is so you may have a really good friend that listens well especially when it's related to events she might have friend who's really listens really well when it's a relationship issue or you know your significant other if you well and then you're going to definitely be talking about your parents may have different brains or different people wear support for different issues to just think about who those people will be open to allow your students to have the different connection remember it could be a cousin and aunt and uncle definitely be the parents keep all of that in mind and prepare or playing for it so now we getting parent feedback so we have another question to polling question is this your first child attending High School to 360 you attend Ivy hair g72 or you would I more you can put it in the chat so I can so we can see time is Jesse might have to help me cuz I can't seem to find the chat you want me to do the chat on the pole you if you open up the pool but some people May respond in the chat to right but okay because you don't have to it looks like it's more conversation coming in the chat right now so have to yes is this my first my first child attending High School let me see what we have on the phone would you take another couple seconds and then we'll move forward but you see a couple of yesterday she said yes two yeses no responses in the pole yet who will go ahead and move on I just wanted to get a sense of how many people will have their this will be your first experience with high school for your child all right so parents this section is free how do you prepare your child for high school so we can talk about it again about expectation routines monitor progress friendship is in your own apartment because that's also just as important as your student support group so involved if you want your parents to support your child extracurricular activities research has been done where it shows that students have better social relationships in Florida high school other thing about the research was just that when they are involved in extracurricular activities encourage them to do that make sure that you also kind of set the limits because sometimes at have my son wants to be in everything he wants to do football he was and still maintain the appropriate grade average and so we had to say hold on you don't even have to split it so parents don't be afraid to limit what they do but just make sure they choose what meaningful Freight and also encourage students to explore their other interests also make sure that you're fostering effective communication and so one thing I want to make sure that you remember here is to listen twice as much as you talk and there is. We have so much information we have so much wisdom that we were provide but if we listen to her students child twice as much as we talk to them the relationship will be even more enhance I'm yesterday movie times where you're ready to hurt the child but we we don't want to do that we absolutely want to make sure that we maintain good boundaries and know how to separate ourselves if we need to so just remember to keep that line of communication open so that they will share with you conceited have a lot more pressure than we did Growing Up School functions that you possibly can PTA MTG any like freshman orientation any open houses think about things like if your child does dual enrollment later you want to learn about play while you're ovulating in his school and make sure that you said as involved and engaged in creating in the wild even when I try to get on a PTA committee and try to stay involved in some way or another so I was able to hold him with the with PGA if so I would so I volunteered whenever I can so I remember something to set up for breakfast for teacher appreciation collecting gift cards and things of that nature so I just try to just want to be involved in that you can also know it Services the school offers so that would include tutor counseling test prep career advancement should I bet you can't on his and her own if you allow them to start building that they will get better at it expectation make sure you have high expectations and make sure you communicate them that's going to be really important to do it having those sharing them with your students let them know she believed in them as often as you possibly can and then also and I get an A or B then that's that's Moriarty knows that you are connected with school and they're going to make sure that they keep that information coming to you as well as with their teacher in the planning is going to be to making sure they have everything that they need like I said earlier graduation pictures right now when whenever you're getting your child and they can indicate that the graduation plan to just be on the lookout things like that establishing routines USA with why do I need to establish 1 increased Freedom that is new to your team they're not used to maybe as much responsibility as they will be gaining when they go to able to just walk from class to class which is within another high school so they're going to have more independence with just inside the building as well as she's trying to get making sure they're getting the work done so you want to make sure that you start provide that and then we talk again already quality quantities I'm increasing with recent events we it's hard to keep them but I would definitely encourage you to try and get back to providing structure for your child and making sure they are doing this together making sure what did I do on the weekends and then earning that time for friends because all of them are going to be important to your child when they can do different things kids get very frustrated when they don't know what the plan is and they don't know how to execute it so if they get frustrated and then communication breaks down to two of you definitely established but you can use infinite campus to help you with monitoring grades and attendance there isn't a gift for infinite campus campus set up for my two children it's a child as late as well as if you're out and that way you can know what's going on. 70 or less than whatever she want to set you can set make sure that you're monitoring Infinite Campus establishment so one thing that I know the email for the teacher's day it is too late and so we do have it where they're monitoring it on their own they know how to go into a username and password so they make sure you set up some sort of system with your own you really important especially the first year because there's so much newness I'm involved with going to high school and going to a new school experience a lot of roller coaster emotions so if you can check in with them periodically to just kind of test where they are and how they're doing that will help you both also we talked in a we've already talked about guidance and support. before school start in getting organized I'm trying to see what what you need to do what you can provide for him or her and then helping them go to Jupiter to get to know what the teacher is and you know what your child needs to do to maintain the academic I'm also keep up with your progress regarding the important so just make sure that you're keeping up with the graduation and also when it comes to those requirements make sure you attend school meetings to stay informed if your school offers ID if your school offers AP classes did finally communicate Jason praise your child for his or her successes really important that they know that you're there not when they're not just when things are going well that you were looking what happened instead of just demeaning them in saying that you just can't do anything but I'm in understanding be done to help with that next alright it's a day we also have the free chips and just making sure that you keep up with them knowing is the friendships we live in a society where what's going on in Oakley keeping your child so just making sure that you are talking to your child when things come on the news or you quality decisions about their friendship are some questionable friends tell them about it you know why do they why are they what is it about this person that they really like that's really important possible but not overbearing important because if they're not being in I can stay there high school kids the workforce and they're not going to be bothered with people who were sidetracked so just trying to support your child with making good friends is there now your support system your own support system it's important that you have your outlet that you can go and visit the people when you need to know that you have people that you can call on sometimes that means sued other parents your friend your child's friend. It might be other. To eat throughout or that you have that and you all just continue to retreat. I'm growing your friendship I'm over the years make sure that you have the key with the counselors at the school beneficial that you know the teachers and you are able to email them and communicate when necessary making sure that you have an ETA or at least know how to contact them when things went different things come about the teachers and students definitely your parents before they definitely have a lot of resources that will benefit you if you give them that opportunity so we've got a couple things we and there isn't he a handout on the on the TMS game website and it is PDF document it says it's idle transition high school you can go there when you go to PMS if you go under Aaron and look for my name Tyree Harris then you'll you'll see it under the post and you can just print that off so that you don't have it and it will help you with things that we talked about tonight the other thing is I really really really need you all to do a short survey and it's a Google. You know he's going to the North Springs and you know we will I wasn't planning on going to the parent meet that they had but let me this was like you know after the outbreak at started and stuff and you know the corner just sent a like a like a file you know like a the Google thing you know the slides and stand and then that was that was it you know and we register for the class and that's about the extent of what we've done with the school so far you know so Fulton County is making three contingent plans at this point on Sunday to encourage all of you to pay attention to like the board meetings and if you can get a summary but definitely the board because they are providing the things they are considering I think a lot of the hesitation right now courses based on the cdc's recommendations in the final as of yet at least not or so far in advance but they're three contingency plans one is a regular Dino face-to-face there's another contingency where it would be online start or some hybrid of a oil lines art with a ace and then there's a third option that I remember you're trying to keep me straight and third option I'm sorry I was sending someone in the third option for going back to school in August basically I know if we were going to do virtual learning I don't remember what do you mean you possibly even July before we know for sure how we will start school.
