TMSA Afternoon Dismissal Letter to Parents and Guardians

August 8, 2022

Dear TMSA Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2022-20223 school year! Our students’ safety and security are a priority at The Main Street Academy. TMSA will continue with the color-coded dismissal plan to enhance safety and provide a more seamless and time-efficient dismissal process. Please be patient as we finalize rosters to then distribute the color-coded car and bookbag tags. In the interim, please refer to the info below for pick-up instructions.

To maximize instructional time, maintain an orderly school environment and ensure safe dismissal, no student may be checked out of school after 2:15 p.m. (no exceptions). Your cooperation is appreciated. During dismissal, all students (excluding those participating in the After School Program or extracurricular activities) will exit the school building to their designated cars via three designed color zones (yellow, orange or green).

Color Coded Chart

TMSA students who walk home from school will be dismissed through the front doors.

The new plan is intended to conclude dismissal by 4:00 p.m. daily. What happens after 4:00 p.m.?

• All afterschool students report to afterschool locations
• All athletes and cheerleaders will respectively be released to their coaches
• Front of school dismissal ends, and a cone is placed to block the interior lane
• All remaining students will be dismissed to the back of the school near the green zone

Late Pick-Up
Students not enrolled in the After School Program and participating in extracurricular activities must be picked up by 4:00 p.m. (no exceptions). Students who accumulate three tardy pick-ups will be contacted by the school social worker, Mr. Nixon. After six accumulated tardy pick-ups, the Department of Family and Children Services will be contacted. Any students picked up after 4:15 p.m. will be charged $1 per minute late.

Please note the following important reminders:
• Refrain from cell phone use
• Be courteous to our neighbors by not blocking their driveways
• Do NOT enter the carline earlier than 2:45 p.m. (early dismissal ends at 2:15 p.m.) This will prevent congestion in the school’s parking lot in the event of an emergency, reduce/eliminate overflow traffic onto Janice Drive and allows visitors/staff to enter/exit
• Dismissal changes (ex. students staying after school for extracurricular or tutoring, not taking a transportation shuttle, etc.) MUST be communicated to the front office no later than 1:30 p.m.
• Always keep mirror tags inside your vehicle and on backpacks

Thank you,
The Main Street Academy’s Administrative Team
