TMSA 6th Grade: End of Year News

Hola

Hola y Bienvenidos!!! (Hello and Welcome in Spanish). In sixth grade we are currently studying Latin America which includes Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. Many of the students stated that some Latin American countries are on the top of their bucket list. As a grade level our top five countries include Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, and Jamaica.

Many picked Brazil because of the Amazon Rainforest, Iguazu Falls, and Carnival in Rio. Mexico because Taco Tuesday could be an every-day occurrence and it harbors the beautiful cities of Cancun and Acapulco. Colombia received many votes due to its large Black population. Cuba was intriguing since antique cars flood its capital-Havana and its unique political history. Jamaica because of its reggae culture made known to the world by legendary Bob Marley, jerk chicken, and relaxing resorts.

Students were fascinated to know that many countries in Latin America have their cultural roots deeply rooted in Africa. Many were surprised to see that Latin America had so many people that looked like them or someone in their family. The people, culture, history, and natural attractions of Latin America are beckoning us to visit Latin America in the near future. Summer is just around the corner. Which Latin American country do you plan to visit? Adios.

ELA

In sixth grade ELA, we have been busy reviewing previously covered standards and concepts in preparation for Georgia Milestone testing and the iReady spring Diagnostic. We have focused most specifically on comprehending and responding to both literary and informational texts. Students have also spent considerable time expanding their understanding of various vocabulary and word analysis skills.

Please take this time also to complete any missing assignments in OTUS Lessons and/or Assessments. Now is the perfect opportunity for amnesty, grace, and mercy. Most of our focus in class will be dedicated to review, enrichment, and fun activities in preparation for seventh grade! Time sure does fly.

With Love,
