Experts suggest that to keep your immune system strong you need to take Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc, Omega 3 fish oil (adults), and a probiotic.

Vitamin C dose 4 to 8yrs recommended dose is 25mg per day. Vitamin C dose for 9 to 13yrs is 45mg. The Vitamin C dose for adults is 100mg to 200mg.Vitamin C deficiency results in impaired immunity and higher susceptibility to infections

Vitamin D recommended dose for adults is 1,000-5,000IU (consult your physician). Most Adults are vitamin D deficient, and vitamin D plays an important role in stimulating your immune system. Vitamin D recommended dose for children is 1 to 13yrs is 600IU.

Zinc recommended dose ages 4-8yrs is 5mg and 8mg for 9 to 13yrs. Adult recommended dose is 8mg (women) 11mg (men). Zinc helps control infections by gently tapping the brakes on the immune response in a way that prevents out-of-control inflammation that can be damaging and even deadly.

Consult your physician on dosage of omega 3 fish oil. The benefits of taking Omega 3 are the long chain omega-3 fatty acids may help to boost the immune system by enhancing the functioning of immune cells, according to new research.

Probiotics recommended dose for kids should be 5 to 10 billion CFUs a day for a healthy immune and digestive system, and any good probiotic should have at least 1 billion CFUs per serving. Adults should take a daily dose of 10-15 billion CFU is advisable for individuals seeking everyday immune and digestive support. This not to say that doses larger than 15 billion CFU are not appropriate for some individuals. Probiotics are made up of good bacteria that helps keep your body healthy and working well. This good bacteria helps you in many ways, including fighting off bad bacteria when you have too much of it, helping you feel better. Probiotics are part of a larger picture concerning bacteria and your body — your microbiome. Your gut wall houses 70 percent of the cells that make up your immune system. You might not attribute digestive problems with allergies, arthritis, autoimmune diseases (irritable bowel syndrome, acne, chronic fatigue), mood disorders, autism, dementia and cancer. Many diseases seemingly unrelated are actually caused by gut problems.

I myself take vitamin D, elderberry, and a supplement called SuperLysine (has garlic, vitamin C, echinacea, licorice to name a few), probiotic, and zinc. I also am a tea drinker so I have green tea with honey at 1 to 2 times per week. If I so much as feel a tickle in my nose I take an airborne immediately and always have some on hand. For my own children they take elderberry daily that has vitamin C and zinc. If I see so much as a runny nose they get a dose of airborne for kids. Also a good nights sleep is essential to keep your immune system strong.

Definitely consult your physician before starting any new medication. I hope this helps. Prevention is key when battling any cold or virus. So lets prepare our immune systems!
