Ms. Douglas is an innovative and results-driven teacher and educational leader, with years of teaching experience, focusing on achieving exceptional results in highly competitive environments that demand continuous improvement. Ms. Douglas has served in education teaching first through high school chemistry; she encourages creativity and higher-order thinking during class activities, open discussions, and groups. She possesses a flexible teaching style to promote student participation. Other roles Ms. Douglas contributed include serving as the Before & After School Director for a private school as well as serving as the Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Principal of a Private Christian Academy and for the Chairman of the Board of Directors of a Charter School in Georgia prior to beginning her career in education as a certified math teacher.

 

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ms. Douglas is a graduate of Arcadia University, in Glenside, Pennsylvania. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Chemistry. She pioneered her teaching career with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia focusing on elementary education. She accepted an opportunity to work for Abbott Laboratories in Irving, Texas and Abbott Park, Illinois where she was able to apply the principles learned in Chemistry. She helped to pioneer the first professional speaking club with the company in Texas and Illinois to help adults improve their presentation skills. However, the need to have a direct impact with young people directed her back to education and she relocated to Georgia where she works closely with parents in building a cohesive relationship while focusing on classroom management through understanding students’ needs, personal challenges, and learning difficulties.

 

Ms. Douglas is the mother of twins, both diagnosed with autism before the age of five. Her story is publicly shared in her book, From Darkness to Light where she shares words of inspiration with others who may need a word of encouragement while raising children or grandchildren. Her personal story encourages her to treat each student with dignity and respect. She believes every child can and will learn when given the proper encouragement. Teaching for Ms. Douglas is not just a career; it’s a ministry where she can challenge each scholar to strive for his or her best potential and to never give up.

 

Ms. Douglas enjoys spending time with her twin sons who are now 25 years old, baking sweet treats, serving in her local church within the children’s ministry and visiting seniors in the local nursing home with her church family. She also enjoys traveling and going on nature walks.
