The Main Street Academy’s (TMSA) 7th grade students recently took a powerful step into the future through their Project-Based Learning (PBL) unit, Creating and Maintaining Sustainability. This engaging experience opened the door to real-world connections, highlighted by a special visit from Georgia Power representative Valeda Dover.
Through this unit, students explored how invention and innovation play a critical role not only in creating sustainable solutions, but also in maintaining them across our homes, devices, and ever-evolving world. The visit from Georgia Power brought these concepts to life, offering students valuable insight into how energy systems operate and how sustainability is implemented on a large scale.
As part of their learning, students were challenged to design and build their own “smart grids”—a hands-on project that required them to think like engineers and innovators. Working collaboratively, students applied the four essential pillars of 21st-century learning: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
TMSA extends a sincere thank you to Valeda Dover for sharing her expertise and inspiring our students, as well as to the dedicated 7th grade PBL team for designing a meaningful, real-world learning experience that continues to spark innovation and curiosity.
