MR River Fishing’s Matthew Robinson Inspires 6th Graders with Rainbow Trout Presentation

On Monday, February 9, 2026, MR River Fishing owner and operator Matthew Robinson visited 6th Grade Earth Science students at The Main Street Academy to deliver an engaging and educational presentation on rainbow trout as part of the school’s Trout in the Classroom Project. Sponsored by the Upper Chattahoochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited (UCCTU), the talk supported the students’ Project Based Learning unit, “Going with the Flow: Protecting TMSA’s Local Watershed.”

Robinson shared his expertise on the biology and ecology of rainbow trout, including their physiology, natural range, habitat preferences, and feeding habits. Students learned how trout adapt to cold-water environments and why healthy watersheds are critical to their survival.

In addition to trout biology, Robinson introduced students to practical fishing techniques, demonstrating both fly fishing and spinning rod methods. His firsthand insights helped connect classroom science to real-world outdoor experiences.

“We’re thrilled to bring this hands-on learning opportunity to our 6th graders,” remarked Juliana Jenkins, Earth Science teacher at The Main Street Academy. “Mr. Robinson’s presentation not only deepened students’ understanding of freshwater ecosystems but also inspired them to become mindful stewards of our local watershed.”

The visit was tied directly to the Trout in the Classroom Project, where students are raising trout from eggs and monitoring water quality as part of a semester-long exploration of environmental science and conservation.
