Greetings 6th and 8th Grade Parents or Guardians:
Fulton County Schools (District Health Services) will conduct the annual state-mandated Scoliosis Screenings for 6th and 8th grade students only on February 18, 2026 to identify children with suspected curvature of the spine. According to available information, it is known that two to three children out of every 100 may have scoliosis. If this condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spine deformity can usually be prevented.
Screening Procedure:
The procedure for screening is a simple procedure in which the trained screener looks at the child’s back in the standing position and in several bending positions. Boys and girls are screened separately. Students will be required to remove their shirts during the screening.
- For Girls: Please ensure your child wears a halter, bra, or bathing suit top underneath their clothing on the day of the screening.
- For Boys: Screening will require shirts to be removed.
If your child is suspected to have a spinal curvature, you will receive a written notification detailing the findings and recommendations for follow-up care.
Please note the scoliosis screening is for 6th and 8th grade students only.
If you do not wish your child to participate in the scoliosis screening:
If you do not wish for your child to participate, please complete the attached OPT-OUT FORM 4400 and return it to Nurse Jackson by February 13th.
Please note that the school is closed to students on February 16 and 17, 2026.
