Excitement is building as The Main Street Academy (TMSA) scholars prepare for the upcoming Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl (HRRB) on January 24, 2026. In the months leading up to the competition, students have been actively sharpening their reading skills and teamwork through engaging and high-energy practice sessions designed to mirror the real Reading Bowl experience.
Scholars are participating in book talks and in-depth discussions, analyzing characters, themes, and key details from the selected titles. These conversations help deepen comprehension while encouraging students to think critically and articulate their ideas with confidence. To bring the competition to life, practice sessions include quiz-style rounds where scholars race to hit the buzzer and answer questions based on their book knowledge. Working in teams, students earn points for correct responses, building both friendly competition and collaboration.
By recreating the authentic atmosphere of the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, scholars are gaining valuable experience in teamwork, strategy, and quick thinking—all while fostering a love for reading. With their enthusiasm and dedication on full display, they are well on their way to being confident and prepared when they step into the competition in January.
