TMSA Welcomes, Dr. LaTonia Butts, New Middle School Assistant Principal

Greetings TMSA Community –

The Main Street Academy (TMSA) is pleased to welcome our new Middle School Assistant Principal, Dr. LaTonia Butts, effective July 1, 2023.  “I am excited to join the TMSA family and work alongside the outstanding community of administrators, teachers, parents, students, and stakeholders,” said Dr. Butts.  

Prior to joining TMSA, Dr. Butts’ educational journey was cultivated in both the Baldwin County and Bibb County school systems; having served as a Paraprofessional, Elementary School Alternative Teacher, 2nd Grade Co-Teacher, 4th Grade Teacher, High School PEC Lead Teacher (increased the graduation rate of students with disabilities from 28.9% to 70.3% within two years), Middle School Assistant Principal, and an Assistant Principal at an alternative school for middle and high school students. Notable highlights and achievements from Dr. Butts' educational career include:

  • 2017 and 2018: Respectively co-presenter at the 2017 National Principals’ Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the 2018 National Model Schools Conference in Orlando, FL
  • 2018: Awarded the Middle Georgia GLRS Special Education IMPACT Award in recognition for improving the outcomes of students with disabilities
  • 2021: Awarded the Outstanding Mentor Educator Award in the service and leadership fields from Valdosta State University

Dr. Butts received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgia College and State University, as well as her master’s degree in counseling and psychology from Troy State University. She obtained her educational specialist degree from Georgia College and State University followed by attaining her doctoral degree from NOVA Southeastern University. Having proudly served for six years, Dr. Butts is a veteran of the United States Army and recently obtainer her paralegal certification from the University of Georgia.

Alongside her husband, Commissioner Kendrick Butts, Dr. Butts is the proud mother of five children and grandmother of five grandchildren. In her spare time, Dr. Butts enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Butts is excited about joining The Main Street Academy and looks forward to supporting teachers and students in their educational and professional endeavors. She strongly believes order is an important component in nurturing students to become successful and productive citizens. Also, she envisions a safe, inclusive and collaborative school culture that's attainable by supporting TMSA's teachers and staff and building positive relationships with our scholars, families and stakeholders to create a fully engaged community.
