Exceptional Children's Week: March 6 - 10, 2023

EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN’S WEEK

POWER IN OUR DIFFERENCES

The Main Street Academy is celebrating  2023 Exceptional Children’s Week (ECW) on March 6 - 10, 2023. During this special time each year, we have an opportunity to honor and celebrate TMSA's exceptional students and the amazing staff who support them.

The 2023 Exceptional Children's Week programming will primarily focus on sensory integration awareness. Sensory integration refers to the processes in the brain that allow us to take the information we receive from our senses, organize it, and respond appropriately.

2023 Exceptional Children's Week Activities:

Monday, March 6, 2023- Exceptional Sock Day. Students are encouraged to wear socks that make them stand out. Students will also receive awards for I-Ready growth success for the first two administrations.

Wednesday, March 8, 2023 - Movie Day (Students will watch a movie that focuses on someone with a disability that was able to overcome it) from 1:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. in the Media Center.

Friday, March 10, 2023 - We are ONE! Wear your 2023 Exceptional Children's Week t-shirt and join us for a huge celebration recognizing all of our differences.

Exceptional Donation Drive

The Main Street Academy's Services for Exceptional Children (SEC) Department will host an Exceptional Children’s Week Celebration for the students who receive support and the faculty/staff members that support them on March 10th.  We are asking for donations in the form of edible items (individually wrapped chips, cookies, or other snacks, juice boxes, soda, and Gatorade) so that we have more than enough to share. We are also asking for sensory toy donations (pop-its, fidget spinners) to help with behavioral and emotional challenges that students face and help with academic achievement and the advancement of social skills. All donations will go directly to the SEC department but may be utilized by all students who attend TMSA. Please deliver all donations to TMSA's main office, Attention: Mrs. Boazman on or before 3/8/2023.

Exceptional Education

During ECW students will learn about using different senses during their Specials classes. They will also learn about famous people who learn differently through morning announcements giving them an opportunity to identify with successful individuals who might learn like them.

YES I CAN Award

This event honors and celebrates our students with exceptionalities who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in one or more components of their learning. Each participating school chooses the student that best demonstrates the YES I CAN! spirit.

This year's recipient will be announced on March 10th during our ECW celebration (parents will be notified in advance).  The winner will attend the district banquet that will be held at Tri-Cities High School.  The date for the banquet will be announced soon.

 Exceptional Thanks

Thanks in advance to the families of TMSA who will donate to the annual Exceptional Children’s Week program which makes the week possible! We look forward to an exceptional week!

Thank you,
