TMSA's Ambassadors

The TMSA Ambassadors consist of a group of middle school student leaders who were recommended by their teachers and other staff members to serve as stewards and diplomats at The Main Street Academy.  The Main Street Academy is a proud Leader in Me school. As such, the TMSA Ambassadors is just one of several new initiatives to support and progress the LiM program. The current group of twelve TMSA Ambassadors, from 6th - 7th grades. were selected by Mr. Mitchell, Assistant Principal of Middle School.

The Ambassadors’ primary roles are to serve as elementary school teacher assistants, tutors and mentors, as well as assist school administrators. The Ambassadors meet weekly with Mr. Mitchell to set their agendas, engage in entrepreneurial and financial literacy workshops and continue their development of self-accountability and empowerment through sessions with guest speakers and Mr. Mitchell.

Zoe Campbell, 6th grade Ambassador states “One thing about the Ambassador program is we are able to practice leadership qualities that will be able to help us in the real world. We also practice responsibility and co-operation skills.”

Daryn Ellison, 7th grade Ambassador said “My experience has been exciting.  I enjoyed the session we had with Mr. Bernard and Ms. Tyra as we learned more about preparing for our future endeavors.  I also like working with Mr. Carter and his class.  It feels good helping young students with their work.”

And finally, Melvin Baty an original 8th grade member of the Ambassador program testifies, “When being a student ambassador, I enjoy taking on the leadership role.  Helping around the school is something I take pride in.  I’ve been at The Main Street Academy since kindergarten and over the years I’ve had many students look up to me.  Having students in K-8 look up to me is one of my biggest motivations in life right now.”

Although the TMSA Ambassador program is in its early stages, students are taking hold of the concept of leadership, service and self-empowerment and they are very excited about the relationships they are forging and the self-awareness that’s being harnessed.
