TMSA's first-grade graders are currently working on the following subject matter:

Language Arts: Story Elements, Sentences, Journal Writing, Poetry, Beginning/Middle/End, Punctuation, Rhymes, Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Spelling and Genre. Comprehension, Summarize, Nouns, Possessive Nouns, Pronouns, Organization/Paragraph Informational Writing, Research Skills, main idea, Non-fiction, key details, Story retelling, Long vowels, Diagraphs, Blending sounds. 

Math: Operations and Algebraic Thinking. Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. Solve word problems that calls for addition and subtraction.

Science: Plants and animals depend on each other for survival in their environments. Basic needs of plants & animals. Sound, Light, and Magnets. 

Social Studies: Read about and describe the life of historical figures in American history. a. Identify the contributions made by these figures: Benjamin Franklin (inventor/author/ statesman), Thomas Jefferson (Declaration of Independence), Meriwether Lewis and William Clark with Sacagawea (exploration)and Theodore Roosevelt (National Parks and the environment), b. Describe how everyday life of these historical figures is similar to and different from everyday life in the present (for example: food, clothing, homes, transportation, communication, recreation, etc.)
