TMSA Elementary School's June 2021 Monthly Message

TMSA Elementary Students and Parents -

Thanks for an awesome 2020 - 2021 school year! Although there were challenges, you worked hard and persevered. Now that Summer School is done, and vacation can begin for all of us, I want to encourage you to sharpen your academic skills this summer.

Bookworm

Practicing your reading skills will be critical this summer so you can start the next school year off right! Below I have linked the Fulton County summer reading list that you can use to choose select books and enjoy during your time off. Visit your local library or find eBooks online. I’d love to hear about the great books you’re reading this summer. Send me an email with your book recommendations to [email protected]

Stopwatch

Next, limit your screen time, which includes gaming and watching television. Spend more time outside participating in physical activity. Sixty minutes of outside play is recommended but be safe in the summer heat. This article from the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta's website has suggestions for indoor exercising on those hot or rainy days. https://www.childrens.com/health-wellness/indoor-and-at-home-exercises-for-kids

Fluency

Practice your math facts! Kindergarten - 2nd graders should learn doubles and doubles plus-one facts, as well as facts that make 10. This will help when adding and subtracting larger numbers. 3rd -5th graders should also practice the multiplication facts. This is critical in learning more advanced concepts like long division and equivalent fractions.

Most importantly, enjoy your family and get lots of rest!

There will be much information coming from the school over the next few weeks, so parents and guardians check your email and TMSA's official school website, tmsa.org,  often. As always, please don’t hesitate to email or call any of the school administrators for further guidance.

See you in August!
