Flipgrid Project-My Life is Like The Odyssey in Google Classroom

Flipgrid Project-My Life is Like The Odyssey

VISUALS/EXPLANATION:
1. Choose 5-6 pictures of yourself and family (either photographs or drawings-no stick people) at various points in your life. If you do not have access to photographs, you may search for photographs online that represent an experience you have had. You will need to explain each picture, no matter where it comes from.
2. Write a detailed caption for each picture stating what was going on in the picture and how it relates to something that Odysseus experienced in his journey. You can exaggerate it!

PRESENTATION:
You will record your presentation using Flipgrid. (100 points) https://flipgrid.com/3a039f46
You will show the pictures, talk and explain your pictures, and read/explain the caption for each, making sure that you are connecting your experience to the experience that Odysseus had during the Odyssey.
You will speak clearly and slowly and look at the camera.... (no emojis or other images should be covering your face for this presentation!)
You will not hold the pictures in front of your face.
You should use a formal tone and respectful, academic word choice (diction)

FEEDBACK:
You will write an one-page, double-spaced essay about this assignment: (100 points)
You should watch at least 3 of your classmates' videos.
How does hearing how your classmates' challenges remind you that everyone has challenges that they face, even if they are not facing the same challenges you do? Does it make you think about how you interact with others? Explain what others have been through and your reaction to those events. How do they compare to your experiences? How can you be more compassionate to others?

Many of you have been at TMSA since Kindergarten, and while many of our staff have changed, there are still several teachers in all grade levels who have been there for you, coached your sports, sponsored your clubs, tutored you, taught your classes and specials, and will miss you when you are gone! Take this opportunity to give them a "shout-out!" I will share this flipgrid with the staff, so your message will be seen by them directly! Please show your face if you create a video. You are not obligated to do this, but it would mean so much to them! Y'all are loved! Show them that they are too! You have one minute to make your video.

DUE 4/3 Explanatory Essay in Google Classroom

DUE 4/3 Explanatory Essay

In an essay, compare the way that Shakespeare uses the characters and events from "Pyramus and Thisbe" in the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet with the way he uses them in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Discuss why Shakespeare might explore the same story through both a tragedy and a comedy. Make sure to use evidence from each text that you mention in your essay.

Focus on these 2 questions in your discussion:
1. How do the different settings and characters in each of Shakespeare's plays affect the two presentations of the archetypal theme?
2. How do you think Shakespeare wanted audiences to feel about ill-fated love in each play?

Use the chart and prompt on the pdf to help you get organized, and write your essay on the Doc provided.

DUE 3/26 Writing about Literature in Google Classroom

DUE 3/26 Writing about Literature

Choose ONE of the essay topics below on which to write a 5 paragraph essay. Your essay should
-answer the prompt,
-use evidence from the text,
-use the PRESENT TENSE to discuss events in the story, (SEE ATTACHED VIDEO AND HANDOUT FOR NOTES AND EXAMPLES)
-be organized into meaningful paragraphs, and
-contain few or no errors in grammar and spelling.

Additionally, your tone should be formal and academic, meaning you should write for your teacher, not your peers and you should avoid using slang and contractions.

CHOICE 1:
Throughout Acts 1-4 of the play, plans have been made only to unravel at the last minute. Romeo plans to marry Juliet, but then kills Tybalt and is banished from Verona on his wedding day. Next Friar Lawrence devises a plan to deal with Romeo's banishment only to discover that Capulet has set a wedding date for Juliet that is only 3 days away. As we see in Act 5, Friar Lawrence's plan to unite Romeo and Juliet goes drastically awry. In an essay, explain why Friar Lawrence's plan fails. Refer to specific events in the play to support your statements.

CHOICE 2:
By the start of Act 5 of the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, there has already been enough misfortune to make the play a tragedy. However, the remainder of Act 5 brings more disaster, including the deaths of Paris, Romeo, Juliet and news of Lady Montague's death. In an essay, explain why Shakespeare includes the deaths of Paris and Lady Montague in Act 5. Then, discuss how Shakespeare pulls the audience away from the grief and inspires some hope about human nature. Refer to specific events in the play to support your statements.
